"David Bowie has always been one of my favourite singer/songwriters. His ability to tell a story in 3 minutes is epic. This is the third instalment in the 'David Bowie' inspired series. With these paintings I ask the question, "What would Bowie and the Spiders From Mars do?". I begin painting and when the characters start to take form, I am able to come up with the task in which they are enacting. In this case, they bust the house in Monte Carlo.
The result, a sumptuous and colourfullyhypnotic painting with a unique and complex composition. Balancing harmony and chaos, this schematic painting begs the viewer to take a moment and allow the eye to piece together the adjacent forms to define the completely odd array of creatures.
With this sub series, I essentially attempted to create paintings which deliver a unique experience each time it is gazed upon and which demands the attention of the viewer for hopefully as long as it takes to listen to your favourite tune. " - Stewart Stephenson
